BENEFITS>>
We believe that it is not just the brain injured person themselves who will benefit from our services. Respite care gives time out for the care team already in place, and/or family members as well as for the brain injured person themselves. It can also provide case managers and other professionals with a valuable insight into how the client copes away from the home environment.
Residential trips allow us to look at lots of different skills and activities; not just the outdoor ones. Even just discussing an idea for the trip requires planning, organisation, goal setting and communication skills. Once we are away there will be the opportunity to develop activities of daily living, such as personal hygiene, budgeting, shopping, cooking, appropriate social behaviour and so on.

Our role will depend on the aims of the trip as identified in the service agreement. This will usually refer to the client's risk assessment and care plan. For example if the trip is purely a vacation, we can provide a complete package including transport, food, accommodation, and activities. If the aim is to promote independent living, or where a more rehabilitative approach is required, we encourage the client to 'muck in and help' both in the planning stages and during the trip, while providing support and guidance where necessary.
